Does your bedroom look like a tornado went through it? It’s not uncommon for the bedroom to take the brunt of the house’s disorganization problems. We run half of the house duties from our bedrooms. All of our clothes go to and from the bedroom, through the laundry and back and forth to storage. We keep things in there that don’t have anywhere else to go, but need a place out of sight. We use them for storage, to keep our medications, and more. Use these quick organization and storage tips to get your bedroom in order today.
1. Check your nightstands. Nightstands and dresser tops often become the catch-all for junk. We stash jewelry, lip balm, loose change, wallets, keys, cell phones, medications, books, tissues and more on the flat surfaces of our bedrooms. Take back control of these areas and half of the battle will be won. If you are one of those people who keeps everything under the sun on their nightstand, then you may be better off with a desk or dresser on your side of the bed. Having enough room to put away the things that you want close at hand will help you to keep the room neat.
2. Under the bed is an often neglected, valuable storage space. Exercise or sports equipment that is cluttering your closet can be put under the bed. Out of season clothing, shoes, magazines, and more can be kept under the bed. If your bed is too close to the floor, invest a little in those sturdy plastic risers. They go under each leg of the bed and raise it up six inches. Just imagine what you could keep hidden behind the bed skirt with that kind of space.
3. Blankets and sheets that don’t fit in your linen closet often end up robbing you of precious drawer or shelf space. Using a trunk at the foot of the bed is a good idea for getting bulky items off of your shelves. A nice window seat is another option. There are also quilt, blanket and comforter hangers that are very useful for protecting your blankets from damage while getting them out of your dresser drawers and off of your closet shelves. When you clear room on your shelves, you can use containers to organize other things, like socks, stockings, ties, gloves, and underwear. Finding clever ways to make your closet space more useful is a great idea when it comes to organizing a bedroom.
